April 07, 2014 03:58 PM PDT
Wayne Henderson sadly passed away this week and because I am such a huge fan of his wonderful contribution to the music which I love I decided to create a podcast celebrating his work. I start off with where it all began and some of his jazzier moments with The Crusaders and going solo... I follow this up with 3 great tracks which he recorded with Roy Ayers in that fruitful late 70s period... Next up I look at a further 3 tracks which feature his unique trombone playing, classic solos which light up the songs... The final section includes 3 well known soul cuts from his At Home Production stables. I round off the podcast with a well known anthem that was his first foray into the realms of production, Ronnie Laws and the aptly titled 'Always There'. RIP the great Wayne Henderson!
Where it all started ... Jazzier Numbers
Keep That Same Old Feeling - The Crusaders (1976 Those Southern Knights)
Roy and Wayne - Prime Time!
For Real - Roy Ayers & Wayne Henderson (1978 Step In To Our Life)
Trombone Wonderland - 3 cuts featuring Wayne
Pete's Crusade (feat Wayne Henderson) - Light of the World (1980 Round Trip)
At Home Productions - 3 rare groove killers
Hollywood Dreaming - Father's Children (1979 Father's Children)
A little something extra ... At Home Productions opening number!
Always There - Ronnie Laws (1975 Pressure Sensitive)

Boogie Back and Associated Projects Special - Ernie McKone and Toby Baker!
This week I thought that I would dedicate my show to the Boogie Back Sound which is currently under going a resurgence under the guidance of Ernie McKone and Toby Baker. Over the last few years these guys have been the men behind the music of some fantastic modern soul. Therefore, I thought that I would bring them all together in one show and also take a look back at where it all began back in the early 90s! I have included a few vinyl only cuts for those vinyl junkies...
The group 'Soul Talk', which also includes the vocalist Gary B Poole, opens my show and the song 'I Want It' is fast becoming a modern soul classic!
As a treat I will be featuring a *** FORTHCOMING NEW TRACK BY PAUL JOHNSON *** which these guys have lovingly remixed. It is one of the tracks of the year so far and you will not want to miss it!
The final track is a real surprise ... Toby Baker's first ever group, Strike One, who recorded a great Brit-Funk Boogie classic for Elite Records in 1982 called 'Can't Touch Me Anymore'...
The story continues ...
I Want It (feat Gary B Poole) - Soul Talk (2010 Soul Talk)
Back Into Time Section
Put the Groove in My Mind - The Bb Allstars (2013 Groove Oil 3)
Taking you back ...
